Flat tire scam: man arrested on suspicion of robberies against women in Teresina The Civil Police of Piauí warns that robbers are using the so-called “flat tire scam” to steal jewelry from residents of Teresina. A suspect of carrying out this type of crime was arrested on Wednesday (10), in the capital, according to delegate Lucas Aldalício. According to the delegate, the crime happens when the suspect approaches drivers and says that one of the car's tires is flat. The crimes occurred in March, in the Piçarreira neighborhood, in the East Zone of Teresina. "He came alone on a motorcycle using a firearm and, taking advantage of a vulnerability, tried to deceive the victims by saying that their car's tire was flat. He then approached them and specifically took the jewelry," the police chief said. After the crimes, the suspect was identified by the women. The arrest warrant was served in the Buenos Aires neighborhood, in the North Zone of the capital. "This individual is recognized for other property crimes. He has already been arrested by Draco and the Dirceu Police Station. In fact, new victims sought out the police station to say that they recognize him as the individual who had robbed them", added the police chief. Four other suspects, including a teenager, were arrested or detained this June for their involvement in gold thefts in the capital.
