According to the Alagoas Civil Police (PC), two men stole cables from a pole located at the back of the building, interrupting the electricity supply. Since then, the corporation and Equatorial Alagoas have disagreed over responsibility for the repairs necessary to restore service.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that it is carrying out repairs to restore the unit's functioning, but stated that it may later seek compensation from the concessionaire.
“The Civil Police is carrying out the repair to restore the service, but this does not mean that the State will not later seek compensation from the company that had the duty to carry out the repair”, informed the corporation.

According to the PC, the suspects in the theft have already been identified. They would be homeless people who live in the region and have a history of arrests for petty theft. The police reported that they should request new precautionary measures against the pair.
The corporation also said it is investigating who buys the stolen wires to remove the copper. Those involved may be charged with qualified reception, a crime whose penalty can be up to 16 years in prison.
Equatorial attributes responsibility to the State
When contacted by the report, Equatorial Alagoas reported that the incident was caused by the theft of cables from the consumer unit's internal electrical network, the maintenance of which is the customer's responsibility.
According to the dealership, the person responsible for the unit has already been instructed to provide the necessary repairs to the internal installation. Only after completing these services will the distributor be able to carry out interventions within its competence and restore the energy supply.
