Taubaté civil servants strike: City hall and union discuss proposals Taubaté municipal employees reached the 10th day of strike this Thursday morning (11). On Wednesday night (10), a meeting lasting more than eight hours between City Hall and the Municipal Employees Union ended with a proposal to try to end the strike. The meeting was closed and was attended by some councilors, in addition to Mayor Sérgio Victor (Novo) and the Union. It started at 2pm and ended around 10:30pm. At the end of the meeting, a proposal was put on the table by the Executive: a 2.5% adjustment to the 2026 salary reference to take effect from 2027. In addition, City Hall's proposal to readjust employees' food vouchers by R$343 also follows. If approved, workers can end the strike and resume work. While the situation remains undefined, services continue to be affected in the municipality. This Thursday, the TV Vanguarda team visited public buildings again to find out the situation, but there were no changes compared to previous days. Education and health remain impacted. The strike The strike began on June 2nd and continues to impact public services, mainly in the areas of Health and Education. The category demands a salary increase of 9.43%, a percentage referring to the inflation accumulated since 2024, when the last adjustment was granted to employees. Since the beginning of negotiations, City Hall has stated that it is facing financial difficulties and defends the construction of a proposal compatible with the limits of the municipal budget. While there is no agreement between the parties, the strike continues. This week, the Court rejected a request from City Hall to increase the daily fine applied to the Union for alleged non-compliance with the decision that determined the maintenance of at least 70% of the workforce during the strike. The municipal administration states that services still do not reach the minimum percentage established by the Court and that more than half of Education employees did not show up for work. The Union disputes the information and states that the entity is complying with the court order, keeping 70% of workers in activity.
