Material seized with suspicion Reproduction/Ducks Today Two women, aged 19 and 36, were arrested for embezzlement on Tuesday morning (9), in the Center of Patos de Minas, in Alto Paranaíba. According to the Military Police (PM), they raised money through a false campaign to pay for supposed child health treatment valued at R$100,000. According to the PM, one of the suspects was seen approaching pedestrians and people waiting for service at a lottery shop on Avenida Major Gote. With posters containing a photo of a 3-year-old child, she asked for cash donations and transfers via PIX. The woman claimed that the boy needed to undergo liver surgery, the cost of which would be R$100,000. ✅ Click here to follow the g1 Triângulo channel on WhatsApp During the approach, the police found contradictions in the information provided by the woman about the child's identity, the supposed family bond with her and the need for the medical procedure. Faced with the inconsistencies, the military deepened the investigations. Following the investigation, the military located the second suspect in a hotel close to the Municipal Market. In the room where the two were staying, posters used in the campaign were found, materials with the image of another person to ask for donations, two card machines and cell phones that would have been used in the action. Child's family denied treatment The Military Police reported that they contacted family members of the child portrayed in the posters and found that she did not have surgery scheduled nor did she need the advertised treatment. According to the military, the information used to raise awareness among donors was false. According to the PM, some victims were identified during the incident. They made donations believing that the money would be used for the child's treatment. The two women were arrested for embezzlement and taken to the Civil Police along with the seized materials. In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the arrest in the act of the two women was ratified for the crime of embezzlement. After being interviewed at the police station, they were sent to the prison system, where they remain at the disposal of the courts. The case remains under investigation.
