Atypical rain is expected to hit the Southeast and Midwest from this Thursday; see forecast
⚡ Quick Summary
Rain advances across the country.
Rain advances across the country.
Starting this Thursday (11), the rain gains strength in part of the Center-South of Brazil and draws attention mainly in the Southeast and Center-West, regions that normally enter a drier period at this time of year.
June is usually a month of little rain in most of these areas, but the forecast indicates a sequence of days with instability, heavier skies and frequent showers until at least next week.

The highlight is the Southeast and Central-West, where volumes may be higher than expected for June in several areas.
The rain should mainly hit São Paulo, Mato Grosso do Sul, parts of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and then advance more irregularly to Goiás, Mato Grosso, Distrito Federal and Espírito Santo.
In the South, instability also appears strongly, with a risk of moderate to heavy rain in Paraná, Santa Catarina and the north of Rio Grande do Sul.
The change in weather is related to the formation and passage of cold fronts, in addition to areas of low pressure that help organize heavy clouds between Paraguay, the South and the Central-West of Brazil.
These systems also favor the transport of moisture to the interior of the country.
"What makes this condition more atypical is the frequency with which these cold fronts pass", explains César Soares, meteorologist at Climatempo.
According to him, in June, rain tends to be much more limited in these regions, which means that any sequence of instability has a greater weight in the month's accumulation.
"In June, it doesn't usually rain so much in these regions. Therefore, the showers predicted for the next few days may cause some areas to reach, in just two or three days, or over the course of a week, volumes close to the average expected for the entire month", he states.
César further explains that this occurs because the average accumulated figures for June are very low. "In parts of the Central-West, for example, the average rainfall during this period is close to zero. In the Southeast, volumes are also usually reduced, including in capitals like São Paulo", he says.

This Thursday, instability should spread across much of the South. In Paraná, rain could start in the early hours of the day and occur at various times.
Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul are also expected to experience showers, with a greater risk of storms in the west of Santa Catarina, in the west of Paraná and in areas of the interior of Rio Grande do Sul.
Gusts of wind may gain strength in some points, mainly between Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul.

Between Friday (12) and Sunday (14), new areas of instability are expected to maintain heavy weather in part of the Southeast and Midwest. In São Paulo, the forecast is for several days with rain and drizzle, especially between Thursday and Tuesday (16).
The sum of these days can make the accumulation high for June, even if the rain does not always come in the form of a storm.
On Friday, São Paulo (SP) should have sun among many clouds and showers in the afternoon and evening, with a maximum of 21°C.
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) may see increased clouds and rain later, with a maximum of 28°C. Belo Horizonte (MG) should continue with showers, and Vitória (ES) could also record rain between the afternoon and evening.
In the Central-West, Campo Grande (MS) may have rain with thunderstorms and a maximum of 23°C, and Brasília (DF) and Goiânia (GO) will have a chance of showers.
Over the weekend, instability continues in part of the country. In the Southeast, São Paulo should still have a lot of clouds and periods of rain, especially on Sunday. Belo Horizonte (MG) may have heavier rain on Sunday, and Vitória (ES) has a risk of rain and thunderstorms on Saturday.
In the Central-West, Mato Grosso do Sul remains one of the areas with the greatest chance of rain, especially in Campo Grande (MS), which may also experience showers on Sunday.
