The ministry warns that the suspension is a precautionary measure and that vaccinated people are protected against dengue.
"It is important to remember that this vaccine has proven efficacy. All of these people who are vaccinated are protected according to the protection provided by the vaccine", highlights the director of the Department of the National Immunization Program of the Ministry of Health, Eder Gatti, in an interview with Rádio Nacional.
What to do if you have an adverse reaction
The director explains that those who received the vaccine in the last 21 days are in a period called vaccine viremia, when the weakened form of the dengue virus is still present in the blood. This occurs because the vaccine "mimics" the infection in a controlled way, helping the body to develop antibodies against the disease.
Therefore, vaccinated people, during this period, should be aware of any symptoms similar to dengue, such as those mentioned below, and seek medical attention.
fever
body pain
spots on the body
signs of bleeding
vomiting
“If they experience any of these signs or symptoms, they should seek out a health service and seek assistance,” advises Gatti.
Those vaccinated more than 21 days ago do not need to seek medical attention.
"People who were vaccinated more than 21 days ago are free from any type of risk, and they are even protected against dengue fever", explains the director.
The Butantan vaccine prevents the occurrence of dengue fever by 65% and more than 80% of severe cases of the disease and hospitalization.
"People who have been vaccinated and are well, have passed the 21-day period, have nothing to worry about," he said.
Until May 30, more than 501 thousand people were vaccinated with the vaccine, incorporated into the Unified Health System (SUS) in January this year. In the first phase of implementation, the populations of three pilot municipalities were vaccinated: Botucatu (SP), Maranguape (CE) and Nova Lima (MG). In these locations, the target audience is made up of teenagers and adults aged 15 to 59, which is the approved indication for the National Immunization Program (PNI).
In March, a vaccination campaign was also promoted in the Araguaína region (TO). In February, primary care health professionals began to be vaccinated.
Before being adopted by the SUS, the vaccine went through all the necessary rites for its use in the country. In the testing phase, more than 11,000 people were vaccinated and monitored for up to five years. After testing, the vaccine was authorized by Anvisa.
