Pitbull attacks young man on Imbituba street The 20-year-old girl attacked by a pitbull dog on her way to work in Imbituba, in the south of Santa Catarina, reported that she had deep injuries on several parts of her body after the bites. Video captured the moment when the animal, released on the street, approached Yasmin Scotti Querino on the sidewalk, jumped on her and grabbed her (watch above). The animal was collected by the city hall and taken to a shelter. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of what happened. The case occurred on Monday (8). "When he smells me, he doesn't let go anymore. Then he attaches his mouth to my leg and starts biting me really bad. The injuries were very deep. Yasmin suffered injuries to her hand, thigh, buttocks and shin, and was taken to a local hospital, where she needed stitches. On social media, she detailed what happened. "He came to sniff me, as you can see in the video, after that he didn't let me go anymore. We didn't do anything to make that dog attack me the way he did," he reported. ⚠️ In Santa Catarina, the government restricted the breeding, marketing and circulation of pitbulls and derived breeds. In a decree published in July 2025, the state required castration from the age of 6 months and stipulated a fine of R$5,000 for guardians who disrespect the rules (read more here). The attack occurred in the morning, near a basic education school, when Yasmin was walking with a friend towards work. According to her, the animals are frequently seen in the region and tend to get close to people. The Military Police were called, but when they arrived at the scene the situation was under control. The municipality also detailed that it does not have its own structure for the permanent custody of homeless animals, but that it is looking for alternatives to deal with incidents. "A bidding process is underway to hire a company specialized in collecting, hosting and handling animals. The service will also include training and behavioral rehabilitation actions, expanding the municipality's response capacity in situations that require specialized technical intervention," he said. When contacted, the Civil Police said that it will initiate a Preliminary Verification of Information (VPI) to determine the circumstances of what happened and gather elements that allow for an adequate legal analysis of the situation.
