According to the investigation, cyclist Cleocir Jorge dos Santos, aged 54, was traveling through the area designated for bicycles when he collided with the two women. With the impact, he would have lost his balance, fallen onto the road and been run over by a car. As a result, the two were placed under investigation. They should be heard later this week. Their identities were not disclosed, but, according to the police, they live in Carazinho, a neighboring city. 'There were problems with pedestrians' For Cleocirc's family, risky situations on the bike path were already frequent. "He always commented that he had problems with pedestrians on the bike path. One day he almost fell, the next he almost ran over. It was a constant", says his nephew Rafael Iarchescki. The municipality has more than 37 km of cycling network, distributed between avenues and parks. In more recent spaces, there is a separation between the cycle path and the pedestrian path, allowing different use by cyclists and pedestrians. On older sections, the division does not always exist or is well defined, which increases the risk of accidents. Signage, at many points, tries to guide users, with signs indicating exclusive or shared spaces. According to the city hall, when there is no truck park, pedestrians must use the sidewalk. "Today we have cycle lanes that are exclusively for cyclists, there cannot be pedestrians there. In these cases where there is no truck lane, the pedestrian needs to use the public sidewalk", explains the municipal secretary of Public Security, Tadeu Trindade.
