The General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) is a study by the Ministry of Labor and Employment that uses data sent by the companies themselves on the hiring and dismissal of workers in each of the Brazilian municipalities. Caged is used by the Public Administration to evaluate its policies for generating jobs and income. In 2026 (between January and March), the study shows that companies located in Montes Claros hired 14,742 professionals, while 13,029 were laid off. The balance was 1,713 vacancies and the stock, which is the total number of workers in formal jobs in the municipality, reached 99,891. Comparing the data with other years since Novo Caged was created, in 2020, it is possible to see how favorable the numbers are and the record in both the number of hires (14,742), the balance of vacancies (1,713) and stock (99,891). See how the first quarter numbers were in previous years: in 2025, there were 14,034 workers employed, a balance of 446 and a stock of 97,334; in 2024, 13,495, 298 and 93,758, respectively; in 2023, 11,458, -4 and 90,689; in 2022, 10,976, 1,132 and 87,761; in 2021, 9,743, 1,092 and 82,790; and in 2020, 7,993, -507 and 80,089. Comparing the first quarter of 2020 with that of 2026, hiring (84.4%), balance (437.9%) and inventory (25%) increased. While the balance of contracts had substantial variations each year, throughout this period, the stock had a constant increase each year: 2020 to 2021 (3.37%), 2021/2022 (6%), 2022/2023 (3.3%), 2023/2024 (3.38%), 2024/2025 (3.8%) and 2025/2026 (2.6%).
