Municipal education workers carried out a strike on Monday (8), in Parauapebas, in the southeast of Pará. The movement brought together teachers, assistants and other professionals from the public network to demand from the city hall the revocation of employee dismissals, improvements in working conditions and renovations in schools in the municipality. The mobilization was organized by the Union of Workers in Public Education of Pará (Sintepp) and began at Praça Mahatma Gandhi, in the Cidade Nova neighborhood. According to the entity, the act also aimed to monitor the result of a judicial hearing discussing the dismissals of municipal education employees. During the morning, the workers held a general meeting to evaluate the developments of the hearing and discuss the next steps in the category's strike status. Among the main demands presented by the union are the revocation of the dismissals of education employees, the holding of public competitions and improvements in the infrastructure of teaching units. According to professionals, several schools face structural problems that affect working conditions and the teaching-learning process. "We are fighting for quality education, for better working conditions and for respect for the professionals who work daily in schools", stated Sintepp's communications coordinator in Parauapebas, Maria Geneucy Silva Santos. Professor Leilane Maia stated that the difficulties faced in teaching units directly impact students and educators. According to her, the lack of adequate structure compromises both the work of professionals and the quality of education offered to students. At the end of the morning, the protesters continued walking to the mayor's office to demand the reopening of the negotiation table between the municipal administration and the union. According to Sintepp, the category seeks to resume dialogue to discuss not only the layoffs, but also issues related to the appreciation of education professionals and the structure of the municipal education network. The report requested a position from Parauapebas City Hall on the demands presented by the workers and is awaiting feedback. The text will be updated if there is a response.
