On the run for almost six years, he is arrested after being recognized by cameras at Ver-o-Peso, in Belém. Disclosure A man who had been a fugitive from justice for almost six years was arrested after being identified by a facial recognition system at the Integrated Operations Center (Ciop), in the Ver-o-Peso market, in Belém. The capture took place on June 3 and was announced this Tuesday (9). According to authorities, the suspect was identified by one of the Security Totems installed in the area. The equipment indicated the existence of an open arrest warrant against him. The man was disguised as a motorcycle taxi driver at the location when he was recognized by the system. ✅ Click and follow the g1 PA channel on WhatsApp After the alert, Military Police teams located the suspect near Pedra do Peixe. He was on a motorcycle with a passenger when he was approached. During the action, the man tried to take the pillion hostage, but was restrained by two police officers. According to the police, the suspect had been convicted of robbery (robbery followed by death), was serving a prison sentence and still had more than 24 years in prison to serve. After arrest, the man was taken to the São Brás Urban Section, where he went through legal procedures before being returned to the penitentiary system. In the Metropolitan Region of Belém, more than 50 security totems are installed. Each device has four cameras with 360° coverage, as well as zoom features and an emergency button. The devices use facial recognition technologies and automatic license plate reading, integrating the Pará government's investments in strengthening public security actions.
