Nelita Frank (PT), candidate for government of Roraima, in the studio where the interview with g1 Roraima takes place. Nalu Cardoso/g1 RR The candidate for the government of Roraima in the supplementary election Nelita Frank (PT), participated in a hearing promoted by g1 this Tuesday afternoon (9), in Boa Vista. During the interview, the sociologist detailed the main axes of the government plan, focusing on the areas of environment and family farming. The central themes revolved around the Nelita government's proposals for the state. She proposed a sustainable development model that combines economic growth with respect for the environment and the knowledge of local populations and indigenous peoples. Topics such as improvements in the health sector, such as the decentralization of neonatal care and the opening of regional polyclinics, food security, encouragement of family farming, education, security and citizenship were also addressed. Combating deforestation When asked about plans to reduce the impacts of severe droughts and floods in Roraima, Nelita Frank linked climate emergencies to environmental imbalance. According to the candidate, the state has lost a large part of its vegetation cover in the last decade and needs to urgently reverse the situation. As a solution, the sociologist proposed the creation of government projects focused on raising awareness, reforestation, recovery of degraded areas and sustainable management. She highlighted that keeping the forest standing is not an exclusive issue for traditional communities, but a need for public health and the survival of society as a whole. "We need to keep the forest alive because it's not just for indigenous people or rural workers, it's for our survival, including as a city population. When we have fires, everyone suffers from major floods. This is the result of environmental imbalance", warned Nelita. The PT candidate also criticized the disorderly advance of agribusiness in Roraima. She pointed out that the expansion of large crops, combined with the spraying of pesticides, has reduced nature's capacity for regeneration and harmed the rivers that serve as a source of food and income for local residents. Combating illegal mining Regarding the inspection of illegal gold mining in Roraima, the candidate stated that the state government must act in cooperation with the federal government and propose alternative sources of income to prevent more people from getting involved in the activity. Nelita's central proposal is to focus on the worker who is exploited in mining, offering him new employment and income opportunities to empty the workforce. "You have workers who don't own the mining and don't get the big profit, to the detriment of indigenous lives and damaging the environment," he explained. "The state can act by creating alternatives so that these hard-working people can earn a living in another way, other than exposing their own lives to this situation [mining]", stated Nelita Frank.
