Prisoners try to open a hole in their cell, video surveillance captures ‘atypical’ movement and escape is frustrated in Uberlândia Social Networks/Reproduction A movement considered “atypical” by the Video Monitoring Center (CCTV) of the Professor Jacy de Assis Prison, in Uberlândia, led to the discovery of an escape attempt in the early hours of Sunday (7). According to the Minas Gerais Penitentiary Department (Depen-MG), inmates were trying to open a hole in the wall of one of the cells when they were surprised by the penal police officers on duty. The unusual activity was noticed by police officers supervising the monitoring room unit and called a team to go to the location. With the intervention, the escape plan was interrupted before the inmates were able to make a bigger hole. During the inspection of the cell, criminal police officers seized artisanal ropes made from braided sheets, as well as iron bars and other objects that would be used in the action. The ministry also reported that, during the action, some prisoners began acts considered to be subversion of order, which required the activation of the Rapid Intervention Group (GIR), of the Minas Gerais Penal Police (PPMG), which contained the movement. Social visits will only resume next weekend. Sejusp informed g1 that the prisoners were relocated to another cell and an internal investigation is already underway. "All inmate inmates will be heard by the prison unit's Disciplinary Council, during the internal procedure that was initiated by the prison management to determine who was responsible for the incident. They may be held liable for damage to property and attempted escape", it says in a note. *Intern under the supervision of Caroline Aleixo.
