In the DRC, the High Military Court delivered its verdict in the case of the double assassination of United Nations experts, the American Michael Sharp and the Swedish-Chilean Zaida Catalan, killed in March 2017 while investigating the violence in the central Kasai province following the insurrection of the Kamwina Nsapu militia, repressed by security forces. Sitting on appeal and as a final resort, the court sentenced the 54 defendants prosecuted for war crimes by murder to the death penalty, compared to 49 at first instance.
