Motorcycle caught fire in accident on Av. Salgado Filho in Natal A motorcyclist was seriously injured after an accident this Sunday morning (7) on Avenida Salgado Filho, in the Lagoa Nova neighborhood, in the South Zone of Natal. His motorcycle caught fire after the crash and was damaged. The victim was maintenance technician Vicente Linhares Andrade, aged 49, who received first aid from a team from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and was taken to the Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel Hospital, in Natal, where he was admitted. "Due to internal bleeding that affected the liver region, he was taken to the operating room because it was in a serious condition", explained Wanderson Linhares. The Fire Department was called around 9am to contain the flames from the motorcycle. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) was also at the scene to record the incident. Family members say the driver involved fled Lawyer Wanderson Linhares, Vicente's brother, said he found out about the accident from his sister-in-law while he was at home. Shortly before, he had already seen images of the motorcycle catching fire on social media, without imagining that it was his family member. According to Wanderson, witnesses who witnessed the collision informed family members that the driver of a jeep had caused the accident and then fled the scene. "According to what people said, including in this first video that I had watched on social media, someone said it was a guy in a jeep," he explained. According to the lawyer, the jeep would be red, with widened wheels and would have fled the scene by crossing the median. "This is information that we are not sure of, because we were not at the scene, and obviously I will look for images from security cameras at the scene to try to be sure of this incident", he explained. Traffic problems The brother lamented the recklessness in the capital's traffic, especially on a calm Sunday. "Traffic is very difficult here in Natal. Unfortunately, there is a lot of recklessness. I'm not just going to talk about those who drive motor vehicles, but also those who drive. But today, on a Sunday, when there is practically no traffic in the city, we are upset, unhappy with this situation", he said. The health status of the motorcyclist - who was undergoing a surgical procedure - had not been updated until the most recent update of this report.
