MinC seeks BRICS support for cultural infrastructure

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Culture (MinC), Márcio Tavares, met with the president of the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB), Dilma Rousseff. During the meeting, Tavares presented Dilma with ministerial projects to improve Brazilian cultural infrastructure that could be financed internationally.
They met in Shanghai, China, last week. Among the projects presented is the proposal for the green conversion of equipment - which foresees the modernization of cultural spaces with a focus on sustainability - and the technological development of the creative sector.

Tavares also detailed aspects of the federal project to create new Unified Arts and Sports Centers (CEUs da Cultura) and units of the MovCeus network (travelling cultural equipment) across the country and renovate those already in operation.
The secretary and Dilma also talked about the programming of the Brazil-China Cultural Year 2026, a cultural diplomacy initiative promoted by the Brazilian and Chinese governments to strengthen cultural ties between the two countries and the bilateral strategic partnership.
“Culture is a strategic vector for development, which goes hand in hand with income generation and ecological transition”, commented the executive secretary when highlighting the importance of financial support from the Brics Bank for the expansion and modernization of Brazil's cultural and creative infrastructure.
Tavares also took advantage of the meeting to present Tela Brasil to Dilma, a public streaming platform that the federal government launched on the 30th and which already has 555 Brazilian audiovisual works that the public can access and watch for free. Among them, 19 titles that have already represented Brazil in the competition for the Oscar.
Coordinated by the Ministry of Culture, Tela Brasil was developed in partnership with the Federal University of Alagoas and brings together content financed by the Audiovisual Sector Fund (FSA), works saved by institutions of the MinC System, such as the Cinemateca Brasileira, the Centro Técnico Audiovisual (CTAv), Funarte and the Palmares Cultural Foundation.
Of the available works, 267 are short films; 139, feature films; 85, medium-length films or television films and 64 serial works.
