A fire broke out in a quadruple collision inside the Daegwallyeong Tunnel in the Gangneung direction on the Yeongdong Expressway, completely blocking traffic in that section. Inconvenience is expected for vacationers who were planning to go out for the Constitution Day holiday. According to the fire department and the Korea Expressway Corporation on the 17th, at around 11:58 a.m. on this day, four vehicles collided serially inside the Daegwallyeong 4 Tunnel in the Gangneung direction of the Yeongdong Expressway in Wangsan-ri, Wangsan-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do. Immediately after the accident, flames erupted from the Santa Fe vehicle, one of the vehicles involved in the collision, and the inside of the tunnel was engulfed in black smoke. It was confirmed that all 15 passengers in the four vehicles at the time of the accident were evacuated immediately out of the tunnel immediately after the fire. The fire department is checking for any possible casualties. The fire department, which arrived at the scene around 12:12 p.m., issued a response level 1 at 12:22 as the size of the fire grew, and raised the alert to level 2 10 minutes later at 12:32. 54 firefighters and 18 pieces of equipment were deployed to the scene. However, it was difficult to extinguish the fire due to toxic gases and thick smoke inside the tunnel.
