“Come here, let’s play on your back. Love love love my love.” Soprano Park Hye-sang (pictured), who is active on world-class stages, beautifully sang ‘Sarangga’ from the pansori Chunhyangga. While maintaining the unique sound of pansori, his beautiful and cheerful tone did not lose its clear presence. The accompaniment, a combination of Eastern and Western instruments such as piano, cello, and daegeum, further highlighted the sorrow and liveliness contained in the love song. Park Hye-sang's song recital, 'Korean Song Chronicles: Relationships Made Through Songs' held at the Seoul Arts Center in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 14th, was a wide range of Eastern and Western songs, from Silla hyangga, Joseon sijo, and pansori to Baroque opera arias, German and Argentine songs, and modern and contemporary Korean songs. Daegeum player Lee A-ram, pianist Moon Jae-won, and cellist Lee Ho-chan worked together to create a variety of sounds that transcended eras and regions. Hye-sang Park is a vocalist who became the first Asian soprano to sign an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon (DG), a world-renowned classical record label, in 2020. 2017 Metropolitan Opera, New York, USA
