For architect Kang Mi-hyeon (52), the rainy season reminds her of Hwang Mi-na’s science fiction comic book “Red Moon.” When I was in middle school and high school, my five siblings were so engrossed in reading the book that they fought to read the next book first. The story unfolds as it is revealed that the main character, who was thought to be an ordinary high school student, was exiled from a distant planet. “(During the rainy season) raindrops would fall on the roof, and rainwater would run down from the eaves all day long. The memory of lying down on the veranda with my older sisters and brothers, eating steamed corn and reading comics, still comes back to me clearly along with the sound of rain during the rainy season.” There is a book that particularly comes to mind on rainy days. Comics that I used to read back and forth with friends and siblings, novels that were best read by a rainy window, and short story collections that made me look at the rainy season as ‘washing my face for a long time’… . We asked five people who work in different fields, including poets, architects, veterinarians, translators, and independent bookstore owners, but who have experience publishing books under their own names, ‘What book comes to mind first when the rainy season comes?’
