When I entered Sabi Craft Village, 123 Gyuam-myeon, Buyeo-gun, Chungcheongnam-do on the 19th of last month, workshops and small shops lined up among the old alleys. Travelers gathered one by one at the 123 Sabi Creation Center located at the end of the alley. These were people who wanted to spend a night in Buyeo to learn crafts, walk in the garden, and taste local food. The Buyeo event of the ‘2026 Craft Week’, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft and Design Promotion Agency, was held for 10 days from this day. Among these, the ‘Steelmaking Crafts Runcation’ in which the reporter participated was a stay-type program that combined crafts, lodging, and local culture. Runcation is a combination of the words ‘Learn’, which means learning, and ‘Vacation’, which means vacation. The Craft Week, which started in 2018 and is now in its 9th year, was held in 53 cities across the country, and Buyeo was the base city this year. ● Gyuam Buyeo, where decline and regeneration overlap, Gyuam-myeon was not a craft village from the beginning. This place, which you can find when you cross the bridge from Buyeo-eup, where Baekje cultural heritage is concentrated, was once centered on a ferry and oil market.
