The story of a retiree in his 60s who had lived a healthy life without a single sick day was diagnosed with blood cancer after experiencing an unexpected symptom of tasting beer differently than usual. Recently, the British Mirror reported the story of Andy Young, who lives in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England. He was so healthy that he did not take a single sick leave for 17 years before retirement, but an abnormality began to appear. Andy, who was a beer lover who enjoyed homebrewing, experienced flu-like symptoms around Christmas. Andy said that the taste felt so unfamiliar that it took him three hours to drink a glass of beer. Afterwards, he continued to experience vague symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, and chest pain, so he ended up going to the hospital. As a result of a thorough examination, what was discovered in Andy’s body was ‘multiple myeloma’, a type of blood cancer. Even though two fractures were discovered at the top of the spine during the examination, Andy did not even feel severe pain. Currently, Andy is undergoing chemotherapy.
