The appeals court sentenced voters who attempted to vote again after completing early voting. According to the legal community, on the 11th, the Suwon High Court Criminal Division 3 (High Court Judge Cho Hyo-jeong) sentenced Mr. A, a person in his 20s, who was indicted on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, to a fine of 1 million won, the same as the original trial. Mr. A is accused of trying to vote again on the main voting day even though he voted in advance in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do on May 30 last year, the day of advance voting for the 21st presidential election. Mr. A, who was sent to trial, said, “It was the first vote in my life.” He claimed, “I didn’t know that I couldn’t vote in the main vote after the early vote, and I forgot that I had voted in advance.” However, the court did not accept Mr. A’s claim based on Mr. A’s answer that when the polling manager asked, ‘Why did you come to vote again?’ he said, ‘I was trying to check if the vote would take place.’ The 3rd Criminal Division of the Suwon High Court also sentenced Mr. B, in his 50s, to a fine of 1 million won for attempting to vote twice in advance. Although Mr. B voted in advance in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do on May 29 last year, he voted again in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do on May 30.
