Vehicle traffic at Seosomun Crossing will resume from midnight (midnight) on the 11th. This is due to the completion of demolition work on the Seosomun overpass, where a collapse occurred last May. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced this plan by deactivating the Central Accident Control Headquarters (heavy duty headquarters) as of 6 p.m. on the 10th. It has been 46 days since the Seosomun overpass collapse occurred on May 26. Previously, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport set up a heavy water rescue team immediately after the Seosomun overpass collapse occurred on May 26, and established and implemented an on-site recovery plan at a total of 9 meetings with related agencies. Through emergency restoration work, operations between Sinchon and Seoul Station on the Gyeongui Line resumed on the 30th of the same month, and the demolition of the remaining bridge piers was completed sequentially on the 21st and 29th of last month and the 5th of this month. Afterwards, the city of Seoul, the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), and the Korea Railroad Corporation confirmed the safety of trains, automobiles, and pedestrians and decided to resume traffic. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport increased the number of crossing guards permanently deployed from 2 to 4 in order to strengthen safety management of crossing traffic even after the lifting of heavy water safety measures.
