The Korea Media and Communications Commission announced on the 8th that the eight platforms subject to the ‘False and Manipulated Information Eradication Act (Amendment to the Information and Communications Network Act)’ are Naver, Kakao, Nate, DC Inside, Google, Meta, Platforms subject to the obligation to respond to false and manipulated information are large-scale information and communication service providers with an average of more than 1 million users per day. Platforms must establish a false and manipulated information reporting and action system and autonomous operation policy in the future and disclose a transparency report containing the status of operation. On this day, the United States Visit Committee notified each business operator of the designation through an official letter. Director Shin said, “We plan to request that an autonomous operation policy be prepared as soon as possible through cooperation with business operators,” and “the operation process can be investigated and supervised.” Director Shin also said, “It is realistically difficult to request that the platform delete information that is technically difficult to determine,” and added, “There are rights relief procedures such as appeals, dispute mediation, and lawsuits.”
