The Foreign Legionnaire thus became a beacon of post-war modernity

The Leipzig-born painter Hans Hartung had to emigrate during the Nazi era and fought on the French side. After 45 he became the most important German informal artist, as can now be seen in Schwäbisch Gmünd.
