Seo Young-kyo, chairman of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly, announced on the 2nd that he would take legal action against People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeong-sik and others on charges of spreading false information. This was in response to the People Power Party's criticism of Chairman Seo's phone call to then-Chairman Roh Tae-ak of the National Election Commission on the day of the June 3 local elections as a 'solicitation complaint'. Chairman Seo held a press conference at the National Assembly communication center that day and said, "I have come here because the People Power Party is spreading false information," and added, "I am taking legal action against the original People Power Party leader for spreading false information." Previously, at the Supreme Council meeting this morning, floor leader Jeong said, "I have received a request from a member of the ruling party. “At the same time that the National Election Commission responded to the call and acted as if it were on standby for civil complaints, many citizens had to wait for over 1, 3, or 6 hours because they could not even receive their ballots,” he said. He then argued, “If the Democratic Party is serious about reforming the National Election Commission, Chairman Seo Young-kyo should resign as Chairman of the Legislative and Judiciary Committee and leave the right to recommend special prosecutors to the opposition party.” In response to this, Chairman Seo said that on the day of the election, the phone call should be made to local and regional lawmakers.
