Rep. Song Young-gil of the Democratic Party of Korea apologized on the 30th for claiming that former leader Chung Cheong-rae of the same party did not attend the funeral of former President Roh Moo-hyun. However, regarding this incident, which has developed into a ‘competition with the traditional faction,’ he stated, “I did not think it was right for a candidate who worked as a core member of Chung Dong-young’s orthodox group and was distant from Roh Moo-hyun to speak about President Roh Moo-hyun’s traditional tradition in order to attack another candidate.” On this day, Rep. Song posted on his Facebook page, “I said that I could not even attend (former President Roh’s) funeral because I did not remember seeing Rep. Chung Cheong-rae on the day of May 23, 2009.” He added, “After reading the interview with Rep. Chung, I said that he was unable to attend on the day (of his death) because he was in China, but attended the next day. I will correct my statement. I apologize.” Recently, former Representative Jeong emphasized the legitimacy of the Democratic Party by referring to himself as ‘Roh Moo-hyun Kids’ ahead of the August 17 National Convention. Accordingly, Rep. Song pointed out on KBS Radio the previous day, “Former Representative Chung has turned his back on former President Roh to the extent that he cannot even attend the funeral,” and pointed out that he is far from being pro-Roh.
