Coach Hong Myung-bo (57) of the national soccer team resigned from his position as coach. Coach Hong held a press conference at Chivas Verde Valle, the national team's 2026 North and Central America World Cup training base camp in Zapopan, Mexico, on the 29th and announced, "I would like to express my sincere apologies to the people who love Korean soccer and have always supported the national team. Today, I am resigning from my position as coach of the Korean national soccer team." Coach Hong then wrote a handwritten statement on A4 paper. I read the comments in Chapter 2. He said, "It was never an easy decision for me to become the national team coach. But from the moment I decided to take over, I did not think about any other reasons. I thought that the only thing I had to do was to fulfill the responsibility entrusted to me to the end." He added, “I can’t say that all my judgments were always right. But the standard for all my judgments has always been Korean soccer.” Lastly, Coach Hong said, “Today, I am stepping down from my position as the national team coach. But I will focus on Korean soccer.”
