A truck driver involved in the accident that killed six people on BR-010, in the northeast of Pará, was released after a custody hearing held in São Miguel do Guamá. He had been arrested red-handed by the Military Police (PM) on suspicion of manslaughter in traffic.
The truck driver, Cícero Francisco de Lima, was arrested red-handed after the accident. He was released after undergoing a custody hearing and paying bail of almost R$10,000.
One of the victims is still awaiting official identification by the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Castanhal. The Civil Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.

The collision occurred on the night of June 11th, between a truck, which was heading towards the state of Maranhão, and an alternative transport van, which was traveling between Paragominas and Castanhal. All six fatal victims and seven other injured people were in the van.
Among the dead was the driver of the van, known as Américo, resident of Castanhal. He had worked in passenger transport for 25 years.
According to the Civil Police, the truck driver presented different versions on the day the accident occurred. Initially, he stated that he dozed off at the wheel, lost control of the vehicle and went into the wrong lane. He later changed his account and said he was blinded by the van's high beams.
During his testimony, the driver, who is self-employed, said he only slept two hours the day before the accident. He denied drinking alcohol, but admitted to having already responded to two Detailed Terms for the use of “rivet” and confirmed that he still occasionally uses the substance.
