New SUS vaccine doubles coverage against bacteria that cause meningitis and pneumonia; understand the change
The Pneumo 20 vaccine is gradually replacing Pneumo 10, according to Fortaleza City Hall. The new vaccine offers greater protection against 20 different types of pneumococcal bacteria, which range from mild infections to serious bloodstream infections, such as pneumonia and meningitis.
"Pneumo 20 expands coverage against a greater number of pneumococcal serotypes, offering more comprehensive protection against diseases that can cause serious complications, especially in the first years of life. The guidance is that parents and guardians keep their vaccination records updated and contact the health unit to ensure their children's immunization", highlights Fortaleza's Immunization Coordinator, Vanessa Soldatelli.
📍The vaccine is considered safe. The most common adverse reactions are: pain, redness and swelling at the bite site, irritability, decreased appetite and drowsiness. A small proportion of children may have a low-grade fever.
