🔴 What’s the video like?
Lasting 22 seconds, the video shows five large, sand-colored armored cars driving along an expressway in Rio. You can see a sign indicating the direction to Niterói, Centro and Copacabana.
On June 3, a TikTok profile shared the recording and added the following description: "American army in Rio #justice #politics #tramp."
In that same post, which had more than 40 thousand likes, a man appears on the screen reacting to the images. He states: "American army in Rio de Janeiro, guys. The Americans arrived in Rio de Janeiro. For those who thought it wasn't going to happen, look at the result. Now they're already moving in Rio de Janeiro. The news spread that they were coming through Paraguay, Argentina. When this happened in Venezuela, guys, they did the same thing, they entered, spent a short time and captured Maduro. [Nicolás] Maduro [Venezuelan dictator] was taken to the United States [...]."
But this claim is a lie. Although it is real – and not content manufactured by artificial intelligence (AI), for example – the material has nothing to do with the supposed arrival of American Forces in Brazil. It has been circulating on social media since at least February 2023, but with audio only of ambient sound, with noises of sirens, but without dialogue or voiceover. Furthermore, it is possible to see the inscriptions "Federal Police" and "PF" on the vehicles (see details below in this check).
The fake publications went viral just days after US State Department Secretary Marco Rubio announced that Brazilian factions would be classified as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" and "Specially Designated Global Terrorists". On June 5, the designations formally came into force.
The measure paves the way for the action of American counterterrorism bodies, including, according to analysts, the application of sanctions against Brazilian authorities and financial institutions.
⚠️ Why is it #FAKE?
As the images themselves show, the vehicles displayed are not American, but rather from the PF. In June 2023, the corporation published images of armored vehicles similar to those in the viral video on its verified Instagram profile (see print below).
PF profile on Instagram published a post about eight new armored vehicles in June 2023

On October 2, 2023, g1 published with the following title: "New PF armored vehicles sent to BA and RJ are resistant to grenade attacks and equipped with machine guns."
The text reports that the PF had, at that time, eight vehicles of this type, all manufactured and imported from the United Arab Emirates. It also mentions that, to start using armored vehicles, the corporation needed to certify the vehicles, install electronic firing systems and train police officers at the Army's proving ground, in the Marambaia restinga, in Rio.
