"They were going to eliminate the entire Middle East, including Israel, and if they had a nuclear weapon, they would have used it within moments of obtaining it," Trump said during a press conference in France.
The accusation against Iran was one of the main arguments used by the US president at the press conference, defending the merits of the war waged, together with Israel, against Tehran, and praising the peace agreement signed with the Iranian government on Monday.
According to Trump, Iran represented an urgent threat at the time the conflict began, and in the current agreement the Iranians agreed "not to seek, purchase or produce a nuclear weapon." He added that the government in Tehran "has acted appropriately in recent weeks."
