India's annual defense production has reached a record level of ₹1.78 lakh crore in 2025-2026. This is an increase of 15.6% compared to ₹1.54 lakh crore for 2024-2025, the Defense Ministry said on Wednesday. At the same time, there has been a huge jump of 110% in comparison to the year 2020-2021 (₹84,643 crore). The country's indigenous defense production in the financial year 2013-2014 was ₹43,746 crore, which has now increased almost four times. PM Modi also wrote on X that in the last 12 years, there has been a big change in India's defense sector on the basis of self-reliance, technology, innovation and indigenous manufacturing. Along with this, the Defense Ministry also informed about the success of India's major weapons along with defense deals. Rs 38,424 crore to more than 100 countries. India now exports defense equipment to more than 100 countries, the major ones being the US, France and Armenia. The US is the biggest buyer with systems and components worth $2.8 billion going to major companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Countries like Armenia are buying ready-made weapons. The government has set a defense export target of Rs 50,000 crore by 2029-30. In 2016-17 it was only Rs 1,522 crore. That means in less than a decade it has registered an increase of more than 25 times.
