Police investigate death of couple found in dam The death of Ingrid Gabriela Bezerra Nunes, 26, and Mário Batista Rios, 23, moved family and friends in Uberlândia, in the Triângulo Mineiro. Described by people close to them as a united, happy couple full of plans for the future, the two were found dead inside a car submerged in a dam close to the landfill, in the northern region of the city. Hours before their disappearance, Ingrid and Mário had attended a party in the Chácaras Valparaíso region. Described by family members as "soulmates", Ingrid and Mário shared dreams and plans for the future. The couple used to celebrate achievements and enjoy moments together, such as trips and races. One of the most memorable moments of the relationship was when Mário fulfilled Ingrid's dream of seeing the sea for the first time. The couple's next step was to share the same address: the two planned to live together from August. "They were a happy, cheerful couple. They ran marathons in Parque do Sabiá, took care of their health, traveled a lot. They had many plans ahead, including living together", reported Wanderson Henrique Batista Ramos de Oliveira, Mário's brother. Ingrid left behind an 8-year-old daughter. According to the family, the girl was one of the young woman's biggest motivations, who dreamed of building a better life alongside Mário. Excited, Ingrid's mother, Luciana Bezerra de Lima, spoke about the couple's relationship and the connection she noticed between the two since their first meetings. "I had only known Mário for a short time, but from the beginning I realized that they were soulmates, they had a unique connection. Ingrid was a great person. According to her, the couple's death represented double pain for the family. "I didn't just lose a daughter. I lost a son too. Mário was already part of our family." Despite the pain of the loss, Luciana said she seeks comfort in faith. According to her, the couple did not deserve to die in such a tragic way. "They didn't deserve to lose their lives like that, but I don't question God's will. Today they weren't buried together, but I'm sure they are together in heaven." Among them were braking marks, traces of the vehicle and tire tracks that went towards the water. According to the Fire Department, the corporation was called at around 6:15 pm on Monday (15) to respond to a possible rollover incident followed by a vehicle falling into the dam. According to firefighters, divers began searching and located the car submerged at a depth of approximately three meters and approximately 12 meters from the bank. During the inspection of the vehicle, the bodies of the two victims were found inside the car. The bodies were removed by the military, while the car remained at the scene to preserve the scene until the arrival of forensics and the funeral home. Murky water made rescue difficult The bodies of the victims were located in the back seat of the car. According to firefighters, this could indicate that they were not wearing their seat belts or that, in an attempt to escape after the fall, they removed their equipment and moved to the back of the vehicle. "This operation started yesterday, around 6pm. Yesterday we had eight hours of operation and here is a place with a small dam, but with a significant depth with dirty water, which does not allow visibility. So our teams had a lot of difficulty recovering these two bodies", explained Lieutenant Tiago Silva, from the Fire Department. The teams returned to the site around 8am this Tuesday to continue the operation and remove the vehicle from the dam. According to the military, the removal was carried out with the help of a backhoe. The vehicle was secured at the bottom and then removed from the water. "When removing the vehicle, we observed that it was in fourth gear, which can infer considerable speed, and also a cooler with some containers of alcoholic beverages. This is a road that does not have any type of public lighting, nor a protective guardrail [metallic defense]. It is a curved, sloping place that requires a lot of caution", commented Silva. The Military Police (PM) reported that the couple had left the party in a black Volkswagen Golf Sportline. Still on Sunday night, family members located the vehicle's bumper and license plate, as well as braking marks and tracks that indicated that the car had entered a pond on Rua Cesar Mugnato. The Civil Police reported that they are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
