Petrobras and Finep launch notice for development of electrolyser
⚡ Quick Summary
Petrobras and the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) launched this Tuesday (16) a notice to support the national development of an industrial-sized electrolyser with up to R$150 million.
Petrobras and the Financier of Studies and Projects (Finep) launched this Tuesday (16) a notice to support the national development of an industrial-sized electrolyser with up to R$150 million.
The electrolyzer uses electricity to convert water into low-carbon hydrogen. With this, the machine contributes to decarbonization, reducing the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere ─ the causes of global warming and climate change.

According to Petrobras, there are currently few companies in the country that manufacture the equipment and none make the so-called Stack, or "heart" of the machine, where the reaction to transform water into hydrogen takes place.
The notice, available on the Finep page, will support a structuring project, which involves a network of partners, including at least three companies that participate in technological development, and at least one Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institution (ICT).
Non-refundable resources will be made available, with R$75 million contributed by Finep and R$75 million by Petrobras, via funding from Petrobras' Research and Development and Innovation (R&D,I), in addition to counterpart resources from the beneficiary companies.

Cooperation
The signing of the cooperation agreement and launch of the notice, held at Petrobras headquarters, was attended by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and the president of the state-owned company, Magda Chambriard.
According to the minister, the initiative aims to strengthen an important technological chain, supporting the industry, reducing costs and preparing the country for the challenges of the future.
Chambriard also highlighted that the notice will contribute to reducing the cost of producing hydrogen through electrolysis, which is still high.
The president of Finep, Luis Antonio Elias, highlighted that the notice brings together, in an unprecedented way, the main instruments to support innovation in energy to promote a project capable of positioning Brazil in the hydrogen chain.
