Young man fell into the river after hitting his motorcycle and died in Itaipé. Reproduction/Social Media An 18-year-old cyclist died after being involved in an accident with a motorcycle in the rural community of Brejaúba, in Itaipé, in Vale do Mucuri, on Monday night (15). According to the Military Police, with the impact of the crash, Henrique Ferreira Rocha was thrown into a river on the banks of the road and did not resist. According to the police report, the other person involved in the accident is a 16-year-old teenager who was driving the motorcycle. He told the military that he was heading from the community of Brejaúba to Itaipé, heading to school, when he reached a narrow section of the road, close to a bridge, and saw two cyclists traveling along the road. The teenager stated that he entered the water to try to help him, but also had difficulty getting out and managed to cling to the vegetation on the bank before asking for help. The teenager's family members and other people began searching for the victim. Shortly afterwards, a resident who was passing by entered the water and managed to remove Henrique with the help of people who were on the banks of the river. The teenager suffered bruises on his body, received medical attention and was later taken to the Civil Police, accompanied by his legal guardian, to provide clarification on the case. Technical expertise was called, but did not arrive at the scene because the scene had already been altered by rescue attempts. The motorcycle was in good condition and was released to a licensed driver. Henrique Ferreira Rocha was a student at the Coronel Clemente Luiz State School. In a post on social media, the institution mourned the student's death and expressed solidarity with his family, friends and the school community. Itaipé City Hall and the Municipal Department of Education also released notes of condolence for the death and informed that, out of respect for the mourning, municipal schools would not open this Tuesday (16).
