'I'm afraid', says relative after convicted of killing grandfather escapes from psychiatric institute

According to the Criminal Police, the escape took place last Tuesday (9). The recapture warrant was issued the following day, but until the last update of this report, it had not been found.
The man was convicted in August last year for the crime committed in Cachoeirinha in 2022. The grandfather, Rubem Affonso Heger, was 85 years old, while his partner, Marlene dos Passos Stafford Heger, was 53. The victims' bodies were never located. Remember the case below.

Last week, the court revoked his admission to the institute after a request for habeas corpus, ordering his transfer to a common prison.
Relatives received confirmation of the escape with apprehension. "I'm definitely scared, scared for myself and my family", says Ruben Silveira Heger, fight teacher and Ruben's grandson.
"They did something barbaric, cruel in this house where we are here today, the last place my grandfather was with Marlene, where they opened the gate of the house to have a meal and to this day there is no final result of what was done to them."
The grandson reports that, after the conviction, the family had become more resigned. "Andrew had been convicted of all the crimes and aggravating factors of what happened, even though we didn't have the rest of having a wake and a body", he says.
Escape is discovered
The Criminal Police informs that "the circumstances of the escape are being investigated by the General Inspectorate of the Criminal Police. The security forces immediately began actions to recapture the individual."
Andrew's lawyer stated that he was taken by surprise by the episode. The Civil Police confirmed that they are investigating the case.
According to the recapture warrant from the 1st Criminal Court, the fugitive still needs to serve 52 years, four months and 10 days of sentence.

Couple who disappeared in Cachoeirinha in 2022 were reportedly burned on a barbecue
The crime allegedly took place on February 27, 2022. According to the Civil Police, the suspect's mother, Cláudia de Almeida Heger, and Andrew went from Canoas, where they lived, to the neighboring city of Cachoeirinha to have lunch with Rubem and Marlene.
At the time, in a statement to the police, Cláudia said that she had taken her father and his partner to spend a few days in Canoas. She also said that she left the house to go to a health unit and that, when she returned, she would not have found the couple again.
In a plea bargain, Andrew explained the dynamics of the crime. He said he saw his grandfather and his partner falling asleep on the sofa at the house in Cachoeirinha and that the bodies had been removed from the scene by Cláudia.
During the investigation phase, still in 2022, the police reported that the defendant placed mattresses on the garage doors of the Cachoeirinha house in order to block the view of those passing by on the street. The action was recorded by security cameras.
In Canoas, according to Andrew's statement, the bodies were placed on a barbecue and burned with wood and charcoal for 36 hours. The defendant also reported that the ashes and remains of the victims had been thrown in a forested area near the Gravataí River.
In May 2022, almost three months after their disappearance, Claudia and Andrew were arrested and charged by police.
Rubem left two children, in addition to Cláudia, while Marlene had two other children from another relationship.
The jury decided that the then defendant was guilty of two qualified homicides, as well as concealment of a corpse, procedural fraud, animal abuse and resisting arrest. Compliance will be closed. The decision may be appealed. The suspect's mother was also a defendant for killing his father and stepmother, but she died in March 2025 from complications related to comorbidities, including diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and urinary tract infection.
