After the episode, the journalist wrote a text on the Diário do Centro do Mundo website in which he stated that Zambelli was “followed by a sect of extreme right-wing patients”, an ideology that he considered “petty, malicious and a merchant of death”.
The criminal action was closed this Monday (15) by decision of judge José Fernando Steinberg, of the Special Criminal Court. For the persecution case, the former deputy received a five-year prison sentence, but fled to Italy.

After publishing the text, the journalist was convicted of the crime of insult and defamation. He was supposed to serve his sentence in an open regime, but his punishment was replaced by a fine of R$2,216.30, which was not initially paid due to lack of financial means, according to his defense.
Due to non-payment, the court ordered the arrest of Araújo, in early June. In recent weeks, the journalist's friends and relatives raised the amount online and paid off the fine. After payment, the judge considered the sentence served and dismissed the case, according to the São Paulo Public Ministry.

The chase
On the eve of the second round of the 2022 presidential election, Zambelli and Araújo had a disagreement on a street in the south of São Paulo. During the argument, Zambelli pulled out a revolver and started chasing him.
Judged in this case by the Federal Superior Court (STF), the parliamentarian was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison. She was found guilty of the crimes of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal restraint using a firearm.
However, Zambelli fled to Italy to escape a previous sentence of 10 years in prison for hacking into the electronic system of the National Justice Council (CNJ). Crime for which he had his mandate revoked.
Last week, the Italian court denied an extradition request made by Brazil for the former deputy.
