According to the Civil Police, investigations showed that the crime was motivated by a debt of R$3,600 that the victim owed him. The arrest was ordered by the courts and carried out by agents from the Centro de Campos police station. At the time, police reported that the man was now considered the main suspect after the investigations progressed. During the investigation of the case, a labor lawsuit filed by Greicy Kelly was also analyzed by investigators. In the process, a woman linked to the case was heard as a witness, while the accused appears as a defendant.
