A Toronto cannabis store that received a legal notice from FIFA for selling an unauthorized "FIFA pipe" destroyed the products on Monday (15). Still, the owners are enjoying the sudden fame that the previously little-known store has gained in the last two days because of the clash with one of the biggest sports organizations in the world.

Last Friday, Cosmic Charlie's, a cannabis store located on Toronto's trendy Queen Street, received a notice from FIFA for selling a bong that resembled the World Cup trophy. The item, which retails for 50 Canadian dollars ($36), was purchased by a single anonymous customer. The store then received a notice from FIFA lawyers for trademark infringement.

"It has come to our client's attention that you are advertising, offering for sale and/or selling products that use FIFA trademarks," said the notification sent by Lipkus Law, which represents the entity in Canada.

The letter caught the store's owners, brothers Sean Kady, 38, and Charles Kady, 34, by surprise. They had stocked up on pipes to celebrate the festive atmosphere of the World Cup, which Canada is hosting together with Mexico and the United States.
Canada was the first country in North America to legalize the recreational use and sale of cannabis in specialized stores. In the United States, consumption of the substance remains illegal at the federal level, although 24 states have already legalized its use. In Mexico, personal consumption is permitted, but commercial sale is not.
"We thought there was an opportunity to present Canada as a leader in cannabis-related tourism. And we thought this would be another reason to attract football fans and FIFA fans," Sean Kady said of the silicone pipe, which he destroyed using a hammer and scissors.
"The cost of breaking a single pipe would never buy all the publicity we received just for selling that item for a short period of time. I obviously never expected to go viral for that. And I'll never forget the time FIFA gave me a red card," joked Kady.
