Syria is particularly impacted by the decline in global humanitarian aid, particularly from the United States. In the northwest of the country, hundreds of thousands of displaced people are still living in makeshift shelters. When the regime fell, they hoped to be able to return home. But seeing their villages destroyed, most have remained stuck in camps awaiting reconstruction which will take years. As time passes, living conditions deteriorate and vital infrastructure such as hospitals threaten to close.
