In the Democratic Republic of Congo, a new step has been taken in the process leading to a possible constitutional referendum. After the National Assembly, the Senate adopted on Monday June 15, 2026 the bill which sets out the organizational arrangements. The senators, however, made a modification to the composition of the constituent assembly responsible for preparing the reforms submitted to the popular vote. A text which fuels political tensions: the opposition sees in it the beginnings of a change in the Constitution likely, according to it, to open the way to a third term for President Félix Tshisekedi.
