Chick born with four legs on rural property in RS Jorge Pinheiro/Personal archive The birth of a chick with four legs has been attracting attention in São Borja, on the Western Border of Rio Grande do Sul. The animal, which was born on Friday (12) on the rural property of producer Jorge Pinheiro, is healthy, eats well and has not presented any other changes — other than the fact that it is "quadrupedal". "He's very normal, he eats calmly, he walks perfectly, except he has four-wheel drive. I've never seen a four-wheel drive car before," jokes the producer. Despite the game, the animal does not use its four legs: only the two "front" ones work, the other two do not move. According to the director of the UFRGS Veterinary Faculty, Vladimir Pinheiro do Nascimento, the situation is quite unusual: "It is a very rare congenital condition called polymelia, which is characterized by the presence of limbs beyond what should be there. The cause is very undefined, it is usually a predisposition, a spontaneous mutation", he assesses. Now on g1 Although the situation is rare, polymelia does not cause major problems for the animal's development: "It will always be a different animal than normal, with some difficulties in movement and locomotion. But, if you don't hinder its access to food and water, it may even have a reasonably normal development", explains the veterinarian. VIDEOS: Everything about RS
