Uriel Baptista and Amélia Souza Martins Baptista died on the same day, on Sunday (14). Uriel passed away at 12:15 am and Amélia at 10 am. The two were admitted to the same hospital room and together, they left a legacy of unity, companionship, respect and protection for each other. The two had been married for 35 years and shared their lives for more than 40. They both died at the same age, 88 years old. Amélia did not have children, but maintained a close and affectionate relationship with her nephews. Even without direct blood ties with everyone in the family, she built deep bonds. One of her grandchildren, Elio, says he always considered her like his grandmother. ''My relationship with them was very close, he is my grandfather on my father's side and I considered her my grandmother, even though she was not my father's mother, they were already married when I was born,'' said Elio Grant de Assis Baptista, the couple's grandson. Cecília Baptista, Enio's sister, was Uriel's only female granddaughter with whom she shared the same birthday, July 1st. She also says that she had a very loving and affectionate relationship with the couple. ''She was my grandmother at heart. And she was always very welcoming, affectionate and liked to do special things. He was always very playful, happy and liked to hum,'' said Cecília. The two were also mourned and buried together on Sunday at the Portal da Saudade cemetery. For the family, now there is great nostalgia and great memories of the couple.
