According to the team's investigation at the scene, the walker suddenly entered the lane, and the driver was unable to avoid it in time and ran over the victim. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. The highway lanes were closed for around 25 minutes to deal with the incident and were then reopened. In the São Carlos region, there are four footbridges installed at kilometers 233, 234 and 236 of the highway, in addition to one at kilometer 248, in Ibaté. According to the concessionaire, all of them recently underwent revitalization and adaptation works to improve accessibility and safety.
