MP-BA takes legal action to guarantee multidisciplinary therapies for children with autism in the city of Bahia Reproduction/TV Globo The Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA) proposed a public civil action so that the municipality of Cícero Dantas, a city 319 km from Salvador, regularizes and expands the offer of multidisciplinary therapies aimed at children who require specialized medical care, especially those diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The measure was formalized last Monday (8), but the body announced it on Friday (12). According to Ariel José Guimarães Nascimento, the prosecutor who articulated the request, structural flaws were identified in the provision of services in the city's public health system. "The interruption or insufficiency of therapies can cause worsening of clinical conditions and even regression of skills already acquired", he highlighted. The prosecutor added that access to these specialized treatments is part of the fundamental right to health and is provided for in the National Policy for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder, in addition to being guaranteed by the Federal Constitution, the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA) and the Statute of Persons with Disabilities.
