Civil Police After the complaint, agents from the 111th DP (Sumidouro) mounted an operation to locate the suspects. One of them was arrested at the city center bus station and the other involved was also identified and arrested. The cell phones of both women were seized and will be examined by the Civil Police. According to investigators, the suspects confessed in testimony that the images used in the extortion attempt were produced with artificial intelligence. They also stated that there was never any relationship between the woman portrayed in the photographs and the mayor. According to the Civil Police, the women tried to give credibility to the false story involving family members and people close to the head of the municipal Executive. Investigations indicate that a city councilor, uncle of one of the suspects, became aware of the alleged relationship and commented to a City Council lawyer and other parliamentarians. According to the police, there is no evidence that the councilor was involved in the extortion attempt. The investigation indicates that he believed in the version presented by those investigated and, therefore, he was not arrested nor is he the target of the measures adopted so far. The Civil Police continues to analyze the seized material to verify the possible participation of other people in the scheme.
