“We were positively surprised by three decrees from territories that we have been waiting for for many years and managed to achieve here in this historic feat,” said Carlene in an interview with Agência Brasil.
"We never had a title in Marajó. We are threatened by rice growers, farmers and mining companies. The title is what minimally gives us security", he highlighted.
Protection
For Carlene, the title is a breath of hope for the people. “This directly impacts the protection of our people”, as it allows access to public policies and increases family security.
The representative of the community of Santa Luzia, in Marajó, Hilário Moraes, present at the event, was also euphoric.
"This decree today, which President Lula gives us, is a response and an act of reparation. Until now I am in disbelief."
He witnesses that the community suffers threats of all kinds. “Of all the farmers, soy farmers, rice farmers, land grabbers, loggers,” he said.
The quilombo has 19 families with a territory of 526 hectares. "It's a community that lives off family farming that has this high availability of the forest and takes great care of it. We are the ones who most protect the Amazon biome", he said.
The leadership says that recognition alone, without land demarcation, still does not guarantee the necessary public policies.
"We expected this title as we would expect a diamond that is being polished. It is the way for more titles, both on Ilha do Marajó, as well as throughout the state and also in the Amazon, to arrive."
For Brazil
Another beneficiary of the title was the community of Invernada dos Negros, in Campos Novos, in Santa Catarina. The leader Adriana Ferreira da Silva, who received the land title, paid tribute to women who were victims, such as Mãe Bernadete.
"We are happy with the public policies that have come to us. We are not women just to be at home. We are to be in the world. The world is ours", she celebrated.
Quilombola territories are rural or urban spaces occupied by black communities, formed by descendants of people enslaved during the colonization of Brazil. The areas handed over complete a long regularization process, covering 11.6 thousand hectares and benefiting 1,780 families.
Incra
During the event, Incra announced the publication of an ordinance recognizing the Porto Leocádio territory, in Goiás, benefiting 20 families in an area of 1.5 thousand hectares.
Five new Technical Identification and Delimitation Reports (RTIDs) were also announced for the territories Brejão dos Aipins (PI), Baía Formosa (RJ), Sapatu (SP), Sítio Grossos (RN) and Engenho da Cruz (BA), covering around 800 families and approximately 22 thousand hectares.
The RTID is a historical and anthropological report of the occupation and defines the territorial landmarks of the area traditionally occupied by quilombola families.
