Beatification Father Nazareno Lanciotti
With just over 8 thousand inhabitants, the municipality of Jauru, 425 km from Cuiabá, mobilized to receive double its population during the beatification ceremony of Father Nazareno Lanciotti, this Saturday (13).
The event, considered a milestone for the Catholic Church in the state, brings together around 40 priests, bishops and pilgrims from different regions of Brazil. To welcome the faithful, streets and avenues were closed, hundreds of volunteers work in the organization and a strong security and structure scheme was set up.
At the head of the Jauru Parish for just over a year, Father Thiago Bruno highlighted the role of the local community in building this historic moment.
"The faithful of Jauru are living this moment with great joy and dedication. Since the beatification was confirmed, the community has been mobilizing, helping with the organization, welcoming pilgrims and preparing spiritually to experience this historic event for our city and for the entire Church", he stated.
The ceremony marks the official recognition of Father Nazareno Lanciotti as the first blessed in the history of Mato Grosso. An Italian missionary based in Jauru, he dedicated decades of his life to the local community and was killed in 2001 after an attack.

According to the vice postulator of the beatification cause and judicial vicar of the Ecclesiastical Court of Cuiabá, Father Evandro Stefanello, preparations began in 2025. A team made up of around 30 people coordinates the work through an executive secretariat divided into different areas.
"It is a time to celebrate the Catholic faith. We have been preparing for this moment since September last year. There are several teams working so that we can welcome everyone to Jauru in the best possible way", he explained.
Structure to receive believers
To guarantee the security of the event, a broad scheme was set up involving approximately 110 agents. Around 80 police officers work within the municipality throughout the program, while teams from the Federal Highway Police control and guide traffic on the access highways to Jauru.
The city's main avenue, which passes in front of the Sanctuary built by Father Nazareno, was closed for the celebration. The structure prepared to receive visitors also has food courts installed close to the ceremony site, offering dining options and service to the thousands of pilgrims expected for the event.
According to Father Evandro, the projection is due to the trajectory of Father Nazareno, who worked in national movements and maintained contact with faithful from different parts of Brazil.
"We have people coming from the Northeast, South and Southeast. Father Nazareno was known in various parts of Brazil because of the Marian Priestly Movement, and many people want to participate in this historic moment," he added.
In addition to the main celebration, visitors will be able to visit places linked to the trajectory of the future blessed, such as the church, the hospital, the asylum, the memorial under construction and the space that commemorates the attack suffered by the priest.
The beatification
The recognition occurred after a long investigation process conducted by the Vatican, which concluded that the death of Father Nazareno occurred due to the Christian faith, characterizing martyrdom.
"For the Church in Mato Grosso and for the Church in Brazil, it is a great moment of celebration and joy. It is the recognition of a person who dedicated his life to the people of Jauru and who even shed his own blood in defense of that community", highlighted the vice postulator.
