Viaduct works alter traffic on Avenida João Paulo II, in Belém. Disclosure Drivers traveling along Avenida João Paulo II, in Belém, should pay attention to changes in traffic. The Metropolitan Transport Management Center (NGTM) announced two new closures, scheduled for the 16th and 18th of June, as part of the work on the João Paulo II viaduct. The changes should remain throughout July. They occur after the release, this Monday (15), of the section between Avenida Perimetral and the Cosme Damião passage, where the laying of a new water pipeline was completed. ✅ Click and follow the g1 PA channel on WhatsApp The viaduct work is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026. The structure will be 5.5 meters high and 345 meters long, with four lanes — two in each direction — allowing vehicles to continue without stopping at the intersection with Avenida Doutor Freitas. Below the elevated runway, a roundabout will be built to access Perimetral and Doutor Freitas avenues. Crossing between these routes will continue to be carried out normally. Initially, the João Paulo II viaduct was part of the COP 30 works package, but was removed. The Government of Pará did not inform the reason. So far, five road structures have been delivered in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, four in Ananindeua and one in Marituba. Change on the 16th The first closure takes place on Tuesday (16), towards the exit of the capital, between Travessa Doutor Enéas Pinheiro and Avenida Perimetral. A 1,400 mm water main will be laid on site. With the blockade, drivers must access Travessa Doutor Enéas Pinheiro to continue to Perimetral, which will have two-way traffic, or to Avenida Almirante Barroso, which will operate in one-way. Anyone on the Perimetral heading to Almirante Barroso should also use the lane. Access to the alley via Almirante Barroso will be prohibited. Change on the 18th The second change will be on Thursday (18), in the central direction, between Alameda Osvaldo Coelho and Travesa Doutor Freitas. In this section, an 800 mm water pipeline will be laid. Drivers will be diverted to the opposite lane, which will operate in one direction until the point of return to the original lane, close to the Doutor Freitas lane. Alternative routes During the closures, anyone on Perimetral Avenue can use Estrada da Ceasa to Elvira Passage to return to João Paulo II. Drivers heading to Marituba should follow Perimetral until Avenida Liberdade. Now on g1 VIDEOS: see all the news from Pará Check out other state news on g1 PA
